Communities and Local Government Strategy For Engaging the Third Sector East Midlands BME Discussion Event

The Department of Communities and Local Government (CLG) was consulting on the Strategy for Engaging the Third Sector. Which is why it was important that BME organisations had an input as the Strategy would affect their work in the near future and have an impact on their engagement with government.

Leicestershire Ethnic Minority Partnership, Derby Millennium Network and Nottingham Black Partnership came together in partnership to provide BME groups in those areas an opportunity to have their say on the proposals put forward.

The event provided an opportunity to discuss at a strategic level the direction of travel set out in the strategy as well as having an input into shaping the final Strategy which was published in the autumn 2007. The discussion paper set out how the Communities and Local Government’s proposals for improving engagement and relationships with the third sector by:

  • Improving how CLG works with the sector
  • Enabling the sector to be an effective local partner
  • Moving to a more strategic partnership and funding relationship with the sector
  • Supporting sustainable investment in community anchor
